King Pigeon EP

A 6 track uk funky ep (25m 48s) — released October 25th 2010 on King Pigeon

11.30pm. Sunday night. Glastonbury 2010. Stevie Wonder has barely left the main stage and it's already one-in-one-out at Arcadia. On stage everybody's favourite party mc - Serocee - is hype-ing up the 3000 or so die-hard revelers. From a tiny cockpit suspended way above the crowd, two youngish producers look out across the packed field and in between the dazzling pyrotechnics they notice that even the bar staff are bouncing and singing along to a chorus of 'Waaaarrrriiooooorrrrrrr!!!' Apart from Serocee and Warrior One, It's the first time any of them have ever heard the tune... Playing to a heaving Glastonbury crowd pretty much encapsulates the year so far for Warrior One. Not yet a household name but already peak-time favourites, Warrior One have been consistently destroying world class raves such as Fabric, Bugged Out and YoYo and although you may have not heard of them yet (where have you been?) you already know their tunes. Their introductory Bad Like Jimmy Cliff EP announced their arrival in March. Supported by Annie Mac, Toddla T, Rob Da Bank and Mista Jam amongst others, their tunes filled the airwaves - all the way from Radio 1, to Kiss FM and the mighty Rinse. Despite being relative new-jacks they have already worked with some exceptional talent - Lady Chann, Serocee, Rubi Dan and chart-bothering Roll Deep member, J2K. In the space of just a few months the Warriors have seen their remixes for Foals, Bonobo, Foamo, Husky Rescue and even Dreadzone (Seriously, check it. Mista Jam is a fan!) dominate blogs, radio shows and record boxes the world over. So what's next? Autumn 2010 will see the release of two explosive EPs, the first; King Pigeon EP is out on their own King Pigeon label. Featuring the aforementioned Serocee, Warrior One drop the Bullring Riddim - probably the only Birmingham inspired record to come out of East London! Full of heavy bass, crisp punchy drums and an insistent piano riff, Serocee brings furiously tight bars and a killer hook that will have everyone singing along (In a good way!) The EP also features the rave inspired Together Forever, a niche bass-lined, garage/funky/no genre-d monster, as well as the stripped down and rather moody I Don't Need You, and the mid-90s jungle influenced roller, Uptown. Following on from this, the boys are set to release another killer EP on seminal US label Mixpack, featuring Rubi Dan in full flow over the Merc Riddim! With many more festivals this summer and shows lined up at Fabric and Glasgow's legendary Sub Club, catch Warrior One on a big system near you soon. 2010 is already the year of the Warrior. Keep watching this space.
